Mickey was born with a very rare medical condition called Lumbar Sacral Spinal Agenesis Congenital Paraplegia, which means he is missing seven vertebrae for the lower part of his back.
He took up racing aged 11, inspired by a visit to his school by father of GBR wheelchair racer Debbie Brennan. Mickey is studying for a diploma in Sports Studies and was the winner of 2006 BBC Midlands young disabled sports award.
He made a massive breakthrough when winning a surprise 100m silver at the Beijing Paralympic Games in a European record of 14.86.
After a solid 2010 he will be looking for further improvements with the World Championships in 2011 and the lure of the Olympics in 2012 as his main goals.Â
