Grand Prix
Race 4, The Lung Run 10k, 30th April 2006, Sutton Park
This very popular race
took place on a cold and dreary morning. And it’s summer! After being re-directed to Boldmere Gate
and parking just about the furthest distance I could get from the Start/ Finish, I eventually
arrived to meet up with a shivering pack of runners three of which were still recovering from the
effects of running in the London Marathon the week before. After exchanging pleasantries of I went
with Alan Britton down to Keepers Pool to see if I could capture a few historic images!! You can see
the results on http://photos.wanadoo.co.uk/album/2950478
Gordon
was our first man home running well to carry off the first M60 prize, followed by Martin and Alex,
the latter taking the first prize in the M65 category. Special mention must be made of Joyce Brown
(71) who after a long spell not competing came out of “retirement” to run in the 5k, which was
run later after the 10k had finished. Her age graded performance for the 5k was 60.27%. Well done
Joyce. Ken, who registered on the morning of the race with our knowledge (Rule 7) for some reason
was not included in the official results. I know he ran under 63 minutes and the photographic
evidence was time stamped so I can calculate with some certainty what his approximate time was. The
time band calculated would put him fairly between John and Tony. Sorry Ken but that’s the best I
can do.
In
the GP, Gordon increases his points lead to 48 from 5 with Barry and “BJ” moving up a place in 2nd
and 3rd respectively. Wayne maintains a good position despite not running with both
Martin and Ken moving up two places for 5th and 6th. In the women’s
competition, Lynette moves up to 9th overall as first woman. Helen plummets to 17th
overall with Ann coming in at 22nd. We need more women!! The bonus point scheme should
encourage more women to compete, please come and support us.
