Tom Payn and Zoe Derham Win at the Golden Jubilee Cup Final
Tom Payn and Zoe Derham both won their events for Birchfield Harriers at the Golden Jubilee Cup Final at Bedford on Saturday.
Payn who represented England for the first time six months ago on the road in Barcelona and placed fourth in last month's UK Championships in Manchester led from gun to tape in wet and windy weather conditions to win the 3,000 metres steeplechase by nearly three quarters of a minute in a time of nine minutes 11 seconds having finished fourth over 1500 metres in four mins 07.94 secs earlier in the afternoon.
Zoe Derham who has established herself as the UK's Number One female hammer thrower this year threw 61.83 metres to defeat her main challenger Shirley Webb by 82 centimetres.
Five Birchfield Harriers placed third in their events. On the track, Dan Cossins and Kayo Titiloye clocked times of 22.18 seconds and 25.29 secs respectively for 200 metres. Brad Yiend without the distraction of hurdles ran 48.12 secs in the flat 400 metres. In the field events, Matthew Bell threw the hammer 63.08 metres whilst Mike McKernan triple jumped 15.58 metres into a 0.8 metres per second head wind.
At the age of 32, Debbie Rowe who has given yeoman service to the Perry Barr club down the years finished fifth in her final competition with a distance of 12.18 metres.
20-year old Jermaine Downie was fourth in a close contest for the minor places in the 100 metres sprint in 10.81 secs. Scott Rider occupied the same position in the Men's Discus with a 49.33 metres effort.
The Stags also placed fourth in the 1200 metres Medley Relay in a time of two mins 22.53 secs.
Ed Dunford cleared four metres for fifth in the Pole Vault which was matched by Jess Palmer in the Women's Discus with a 32.86 metres performance.
The Stags scored 60 points to place runners up to Woodford Green and Essex Ladies in the new ten events in 100 minutes cup competition format.
