GP 2008 Rules Announced
Saturday, 11th August 2007

Hi Folks,

After much deliberation and heartache and several drafts the Road Runners Consultation Group have finally agreed on the Grand Prix Rules for 2008.

It has been decided to simplify the points system by deleting the "Bonus Points". These were introduced to encourage more women participants by awarding them separate bonus points but it never worked so we have dropped them.

Also we have dropped any "qualifying rules", they clearly didn't work and we have several disgruntled runners who miscalculated what they had to do, the result of which we will be short of runners in the final few races. The words "shot, foot and ourselves" springs to mind!!

The maximum number of points awarded have been reduced to 40 and the idea we have run with for a number of years of separating places by several points has been dropped in favour of a 1 point differential over all places. Therefore the final scoring should be tighter. We have introduced a tie break rule, just in case!

The make up of the series is still to be decided upon by a small team of 4. It is hoped to introduce more shorter races to encourage the women and younger runners. These will be announced very shortly. Watch this space...

The rules are available on the website now.

A reminder: Don't forget the Road Runners Awards & Social Evening. Let me know if you want tickets.
