Grand Prix 2006

Race 1, The Sneyd 10 Pudding Run, 11th December 2005

The new Grand Prix season is quickly upon us and kicked off with the ever-popular Sneyd Striders Christmas Pudding Run, otherwise known as the Sneyd 10. Eighteen Birchfield Harriers towed the line, not a bad turn out for the first race. Unfortunately I wasn’t there on the day but I’m told conditions were perfect for a good run. Michael Morley was the first ‘Stag’ to finish, followed by Wayne Bourne and Cath Mijovic. Unfortunately Cath hadn’t informed us before hand (GP Rule 7) therefore NIL points! Also, Brian Worthington didn’t wear his Club Vest (GP Rule 8), NIL points!

In the GP competition itself, Michael has taken the lead just 2 points in front of Gordon with Wayne a further 5 points behind in third place. Barry, John and Martin are equal 4th. It’s early days yet and I’m sure we will see a few changes as we progress. At this stage the percentage table is more informative. Remember, this is a measure of everyone’s performance irrespective of age and again the older athletes are out doing the younger ones on performance. In the absence of Alex, who was a regular 80% performer last season, Gordon has improved by a massive 7%. His near 84%, if he can average this puts him firm favourite, but he has to compete in all the qualifying races. Michael, Barry and Wayne were all around 4% better than their average last season. Bearing in mind masters (veterans) now begin at 35, only one non-master turned out, John Constandinou, our rather good race walker. Come on you youngsters, come and support our Club competition.
