Grand Prix 2006 The Coventry Midsummer 5 Mile, 18th June

With a cancelled prior engagement allowing me to go along to Coventry Memorial Park, I was able to get the results fairly quickly, albeit from a provisional set. The morning was cooler than of late and I was in danger of getting shivery knees, however this was no problem to the runners as they sped off on their trip round the traffic free course. At the end of the first small lap, Martin and Gordon were battling it out in an attempt to gain the maximum bonus points. Gordon won out in the end by coming home just 8 seconds in front of Martin. Ann made a late surge passing Barry in the last few yards, whilst Kenny continued to make an impact in the overall GP points. This was the 2^nd race in the WRRL and Birchfield are now showing in the results. 

The Grand Prix has now reached an interesting stage! The qualifying rule of having to complete 4 races at different distances kicked in after Race 5 and now after Race 6 the best 5 scoring races are starting to apply. This can have an effect on the overall placing and you will have to take this into account when planning what races to do. There are only 4 races to do at 3 distances BUT don’t let this stop you entering… we really do like to see as many ‘stag’ vests out on the road as possible. 

The current position with the overall standings is that Gordon retains first place with 300 points. Kenny has fallen down to 4^th position with Barry and John moving up to 2^nd and 3^rd respectively. Martin moves up into 4^th equal spot with Kenny, both being on 203 points. Currently these are the only qualifiers, so we need Peter, Wayne, Ann, Robin and Julian etc. making sure they come into this category by doing the requisite race distances. (See the GP Points Table). Ann shoots up from 17^th overall to 8^th with a good lead over Lynette who is missing races and Helen, who is injured. Ann would do well to concentrate on getting into the first 6 overall as this is quite possible.
