MCAA 6 Stage Road Relays

Sutton Park, 23rd September 2006

I have decided not to do a conventional report on these relays but to leave it to others. Full results of the event can be found at

http://www.race-results.co.uk/results/2006/midmen06.pdf for the men and at

http://www.race-results.co.uk/results/2006/midwom06.pdf for the women.

The interesting thing for me is to work out all the age graded performances and to list them in descending order. This gives a “ranking” of the performance level of each athlete irrespective of age. By comparing this percentage with those obtained at different distances and events and athlete can deduce just which event and distance he or she is most suited for and where improvements in performance can be made.

It’s internationally accepted that 70%+ is Regional Standard and 80%+ is National Standard. You can see from the list that James Trollope had the best performance of the day although he had only the second fastest time and that Derek’s performance at 50 years of age was on a par with Tom Penfold’s who is only 22. The younger lads know what they have to do to better their older ‘masters’!
