MMAC Road Relay Championships

Sutton Park, 28th April 2007

The change of this years date to a Saturday for this event received mixed reactions and may have been a contributory factor for the low number of entries.  However, the move to Sutton Park proved highly successful and the new start with an anti-clockwise course was a popular choice.

Once again, the number of Stags teams entered was less and we only managed two M60 teams with poor “BJ” running in rather slow composite team. Despite this our runners came away well pleased with first and third placings in the M60 Age category. Unfortunately, the rules state that if a club’s “A” qualifies for an award then if the “B” team is placed as well then they will not qualify for an award. Therefore our M60 “B” Team came away with nothing but the pleasure of running…!

The “A” Team came away with bottles of plonk, which probably didn’t last through Saturday night. But who blames them.

Steve Couldwell led them off to a good start handing over to Gordon Orme in 9th position overall clocking a useful 18-14 for the three mile course. Gordon sped round in a useful 18-28 gaining 2 places overall to touch the hand of Tony Frain sending him off on the final leg maintaining the first position in the M60 group and coming home in 22-42 for 11th place overall. Their 59-24 clocking was actually faster than the fourth placed M50 team. Birchfield results are tabulated below: -
