National Women’s Road Relay Champs. Sutton Park 8th April 2006
A Race Report
Sadly, due to the men’s team being disqualified at the Midland event, it seems that the Midland Counties staff are far more efficient at spotting anomalies than the Southern who allowed Blackheath to run although they didn’t complete a team in their area Champs.
However, I digress, again, the sun shone but it was a wickedly cold blustering wind, making fast times difficult. I am very pleased that the ladies who ran today, some of whom probably didn’t expect to be running in the A team, did splendidly to bring us back roughly half way down the field.
Rachel Cook, enjoying the extra edge of being on 1st leg knocked 16 secs. off her Midland time coming back in 50th.
Super Cath Mijovic who is about to approach early middle age on Tuesday, enjoyed second leg by gaining 16 places to come back in 34th . Her husband Steve said she ran down to Keeper’s pool like a Woosie . Inadvisable I would have thought.
Faye/Gaye Manger, along with Cath has been the most prolific racer this winter , gained another 5 places coming back in 29th.
Michelle Tanner, dropped 3 places but ran 10 secs. faster than two weeks ago. Came back in 32nd.
Hannah Hore also knocked off another 10secs, from her Midland time and came in 34th.
Rachel
Denham, handled the extra pressure of first team running with suitable aplomb, managed to maintain our position and completed the team in
34th.
Wendy Morant
, super sub. Ran a lonely first leg for the B team
