NATIONAL XC RELAYS, BERRY HILL PARK, MANSFIELD. SAT. 12TH NOV. 2005
WOMEN’S RACE REPORT
A week before the race we had three teams and a couple of reserves, then we had the following withdrawals, Josie Grey, leg injury; Becky Sanders, foot injury; Amanda Dalkins, viral infection; Amanda Wright, stuff; Clare Grice minor operation (not minor to her); Emily Evans, hamstring injury; Michelle Tanner, business meeting.
So into the breach stepped three new girls who are still learning the sport. Claire Beaumont, Louise Harman, and Rachel Denham, there was never any danger that we would be challenging for honours against the vastly experienced runners competing in this event. However I can’t speak highly enough of the way the girls got stuck in, I know they all enjoyed the race immensely and I hope it has whetted their ambitions.
Dear old Wendy also ran, arriving five minutes before the race started, changing in her vehicle, running to the start and only being given her race number by Pat as she approached the finish.
Times
Claire Beaumont-13:10. Louise Harman-12:53. Rachel Denham- 15:05.
Wendy Morant 15:36.
MEN’S TEAM
Twenty mins. Before the start two members of the team were still missing having decided to have a look at Nottingham Castle on the way! A quick reshuffle of the running order ensued. However they did finally turn up which much relief all round.
Tom Payne had a storming run coming back in 11th beating several fancied runners in the process. Paul Moores, not a happy runner at the minute slipped back to 35th despite giving a hundred percent. Simon Hall, on the eve. of departure to Oz for a month, had a sound run to come back in 31st, finally Tom Penfold had an excellent last leg to close the team in 22nd
