Warwickshire County Champs. Senior Women/Vets.
Newbold Comyn Leamington Sat. 15th Jan. 2005.
Race Report
With our Club the Counties can be a problem as we have Ladies from no less than six different counties, this year was the same and only a last minute rescue by our Student nurses saved the day.
The Race.
Judging by the state of the runners the course was well watered, but the pace at the front led by Sue Harrison and Laura Kenney was very brisk, however, in the following pack was Becky Sanders who was competing for the first time after recovering from an injury, she was by no means having an easy time in that group and could probably have expected to suffer in the later stages of the race. Not at all, she took control of the situation in the closing stages and finished a brilliant 3rd.
Next came even younger Faye Manger who was not pleased with her result in her first race for us because she went off too quick. not today, giving a very mature performance today she started more sensibly and held her form to finish 11th.
Rachel Cook was next in the frame, despite limited training
Opportunities at the moment due to work, had a really excellent run finishing 17th overall and 2nd Vet.
Completing the team scoring was Adele Wainwright who finished 47th despite only running about 3 times in 6 weeks due to exams and stuff. Backup was provided by Sarah Perkins who trained about as much as
Adele and finished 56th, but without these girls we would be looking at a blank team sheet.
Team results to be announced.
Addendum.
In the Worcestershire Champs. Cath Mijovic was a superb 2nd on a hilly course.
Steve Couldwell won the Over 55 age group at the same venue.
