This race incorporated both the Midland Masters 10
Mile Championships and the Warwickshire Road Race League. Prior to this race in the individual WRRL,
Gordon Orme was lying in 15th place overall (10th Master) in the men’s and
Ann Haywood was 20th overall in the women’s category. In the Masters Team category, we
(Birchfield) are lying in 2nd place men and 6th place women, not bad after 4
races in the league.
Getting back to this race, we had only 8 entered
with 7 starting. We also had 4 of these being included in the MMAC Championships. Both Barry Roberts
and I were on holiday, so weren’t there on the day. Both of us didn’t receive any details or
numbers until the day before the race (I was in Cornwall!). This had everyone panicking because of
not knowing where to go… and no numbers. In the event the organiser didn’t send numbers, you had
to pick them up on the day, had we known all the hassle could have been avoided. The result was that
Julian, who himself was on holiday until Saturday, unsure where to go, arrived late and missed the
start. The officials allowed him to start and we were able to get him a finish time. All’s well
that ends well!
Gordon picked up 1st M60 in the race
overall and 1st Midland Master, also Alex took the 1st M65 in the Midland
Masters Championships, 2 GOLD MEDALS…
Only two races left in the GP and it looks as though we may have runaway winner. Some of you can still qualify, so please have a go at the last 2 races. At the moment we have 10 qualifiers and Gordon retains his 1st place overall. Second, third and fourth places stay the same but Lynette Millard moves up from 8th to equal 4th spot and also retains her 1st women’s slot. Kenny drops two places as does Martin, Julian and Tony. Alex moves up to 6th and qualifies with this race, whilst Ann drops a position and still needs to qualify.
