Road Runners Grand Prix

Race 2, The Alsager 5 Mile, 5th February 2006

Race 2 in our GP series saw us descend on Alsager for the ever-popular 5-mile race. The Alsager 5 was once the premier road race 5 miler in the country, I’m not sure it can still claim this distinction from looking at the results, however, it still is an excellently organised race with a great atmosphere and certainly one to do.

Twenty-one members lined up at the start but three of these didn’t qualify for GP points because they hadn’t registered with us beforehand (see RGP Rule 7). The race unfortunately clashed with the combined Centurion 5 and MVAC Handicap at Kingshurst and two of our members, Martin Wilkinson and Peter Davies decided to run there instead of the GP. This cost them GP points but hopefully they can make amends in the coming months. 

Early leader in the GP, Michael Morley, owing to his absence, bombed down to 13th place. But it’s early days yet! Both Gordon and Wayne move up a place to 1st and 2nd respectively whilst Helen moves up six places to 3rd spot. Barry and BJ remain in 4th and 5th places and Lynette, like Helen moves up six places to 7th. Absentee Martin also drops down 10 positions to 17th place.
