Race 3, The Stafford Half Marathon, 19th March 2006
A new event for our GP although a well-established
race, the first one being run in 1985 when I think yours truly ran around 1:31. Happy days!! A
rather cold crisp day greeted us as we arrived in Stafford, one for thermals I felt.
Wayne was first home in a pleasing 1:20, followed
by Martin and Gordon true to form. Wayne was 27th in the race overall out of 1230
finishers and was 16th in the open event. Martin was 5th and Gordon 6th
in the M45 and M60 categories respectively. Performance levels were generally down or around the
same for this race, perhaps indicating that shorter distances are more suitable??
Overall in the GP Gordon retains his first place
but with a reduced lead from Wayne. Helen’s absence meant she plummeted six places to 9th
spot with Barry taking over 3rd position in front of John Adams. In the meantime,
previous GP winner, Alex, languishes in 20th place having completed only one race. But
there is a long way to go?
In the unofficial percentage table, Wayne increases his average percentage, while Gordon, due to a relatively poor run, has a lower average but still remains in the National Standard band.
