GRAND PRIX 2005
Race 4, The Chelmsley 5 Mile, 6th February
There was a disappointing turn out for our fourth race in the Grand Prix 2005.
In the previous three races we had a total of 22 athletes running, so a showing of only 8 runners
was a bit low. Whilst I was on my way for a week’s holiday on the Costa del Sol, these 8 hardy
soles covered the 5 miles in chillier temperatures.
It was good to see Kevin pull on his Birchfield vest for the first time in a
few years and come home in first place, posting a solid 12 bonus points. Newcomer Michael was a
close second, only 5 seconds behind and scoring a useful 8 bonus points.
The GP points are scored using Age Grading and Alex once again managed over 80%
to come out on top with a maximum 50 points. This represents “National” standard and shows that
our younger runners need to improve their performances to be able to challenge him. Kevin picked up
useful points in second, whilst Michael, Martin and Peter were within 0.8% of each other.
Overall in the competition, Alex has shot into a 10-point lead over Martin, who
has moved into 2nd place. Due to his absence in this race, Gordon has plummeted to 5th
place whilst Lynette has moved into 3rd. Peter has maintained his 4th spot and
‘new’ boy Kevin has opened his account in 13th place.
In the average percentages competition, Alex has also moved into 1st
place with an average of 77.70%. Remember, you have to score in 5 races to count in this
competition.
Also, you have to wear the official Club Vest to score points in the Grand
Prix. It’s quite clear in the Rules of this competition (copies on the Road Runners Notice Board
or from Barry Roberts and myself). Club T-Shirts do not count. One member ran in a Club T-Shirt last
month and I have amended the points suitably.
