Race 5, The Fradley 10k, 20th March
There were 461 finishers in this very popular race and we
provided 16 of these. Although I know that some are perhaps not aware of our Grand Prix competition;
I have counted them all and awarded points. Because I wasn’t at the race myself, I have to rely on
other people’s observations with regards the wearing of Club vests. There was a vague possibility
that someone wore a tee shirt, I haven’t been able to substantiate this so I have awarded points
to every runner. Please let me know if you were the one. Be honest.
I hope that all these ‘first timers’ on the GP will continue
and provide the competition and interest that the GP deserves. We have been organising this GP for
all roadrunners since 1987 and I still find it incredible that we get so few who are interested in
it!
In the race, Alex, fresh from receiving the Club Veterans Road
Running Award for 2004 at the 127th Annual Dinner/Presentation the evening before scored
his highest percentage yet to take again the maximum 50 GP points. This best performance so far
indicates that his training for the London Marathon next month is going well. Carl in second place
is obviously below par with his regional standard and we would expect more from Carl in the future.
Jarred, at 16 years, scored an impressive 77% just behind Carl and again more to come from this
young talent. Rachel, another newcomer to our competition, scored well and we hope to see her in
more of our GP through the next few months.
Overall in the GP, the first six places remain unchanged. Alex
has increased his lead and is now 18 points in front of Martin. David Fall has moved up to 7th
from 11th place and Kevin Wakerley has moved up to 8th from 13th
place. Remember, your best 6 races count at the end. Highest of the newcomers is Carl who comes in
at 15th place.
In the percentage competition Alex is still top with an average
of 78.46%. This would have been higher had it not been for the insect sting in Race 1.
