The Sneyd Christmas Pudding Run – 10 Miles

10th December 2006

Grand Prix Race 1 - Results

Well, it had to happen some time… I was late for the start of a race! All the time I was running, I was never late arriving at the start of a race. Somehow, I had it all wrong. I could not find a parking space except for half a mile away. I missed the start and all the spectators were walking in the opposite direction to me. Never mind, I thought, I will get some photos… not realising I had an hour to wait! It was cold… it started to rain… my batteries ran out in the camera. A quick change… oh no, I have missed Steve Couldwell! ‘Phone rings… can’t get to it before it stops. Getting wet and cold. Ooops!! I have missed Peter and Alex. Give up and get back to the Finish. Not my day? However, I hope all those of you who ran had a better one.

Now to the nitty gritty. The was the first race of our 2007 Grand Prix and an old favourite, the Sneyd Pudding Run. There were four members who, under the GP Rules, we could not count. What a shame, we do like to involve everyone. All four did not let us know they were running (Rule 7) and two did not wear their Club Vest (Rule 8). Nil points I am afraid.

It is very early days yet but the 2006 GP winner, Gordon Orme, has already set the target to achieve. There are new WMA Age Grading calculations published and I shall from now on be using these. On average, they give a slightly higher percentage for the age-performances, around 2%, so please consider this when comparing to last years figures. You can download a calculator from http://www.howardgrubb.co.uk/athletics/wavalookup.html this is also useful for calculating what time you can expect to run before races and all events/disciplines are covered. Therefore, we have Gordon leading with Rachel Cook 2nd just 6 points trailing. Newcomer Don Field is lying in third spot a further 3 points adrift, with Alex 4th another 3 points behind.

The next race is the Alsager 5 on the 4th February. Barry will be taking entries and remember; please let us know if you intend to enter yourself.
