Luke
Luke does not train very often and has a best of 48.80m as an U17 this year from his four meetings. This throw went around 55m (obviously fouling the line) and has thrown 58m a few times. What you don't see is that he has real problems lining the javelin up and he hooks it and stalls it on most occasions. He is a talent and should make time to train more often. It is a given that a thrower should be able to throw the javelin relatively clean though the air, which is something he struggles with. He has great athleticism, especially with his range in his legs, but here he was bothered by a hernia (we stopped when he told me this!) so was slowing down and shortening his stride. We don't want to get too technical with Luke, just get him use to throwing so he can develop his own technique. His javelin control is OK although he tends to drop his throwing hand causing him to throw out to the right and hurt his elbow (as is the case with most throwers). If you throw out to the right hand sector on a calm day, it is usually because you hold your hand too low on delivery.
