Warwickshire County Champs. Jan. 6th 2007 Newbold Swamp

Short Alternative Race Report

As usual Newbold Comyn was like the battle of the Somme without the shooting. After a couple of hours the tent area was like the second day of a Rock Festival and smelled nearly as bad.

Running through the days racing, in the U13 girls, Laura Muth, who plays Netball, Hockey, rides a horse and manages to run a bit too, finished a superb 3rd . New-ish girl Jessica Freeman finished 12th, and Faye Morley, who likes to have a little cry before the race and a big cry after, finished 25th .

In the U15  Boys, Lewis Morley finished 7th, Dodger Gregory17th, and Robert Pritchard-Jones 23rd. They were 4th team.

In the U15 Girls, Sarah Hopcroft finished a fine 6th but spoiled her hair! And Vicki Clueit 22nd.

In the U 17 men Richard O’Donnell was chuffed with 4th place, Michael Gibbs a fine 8th. Leon Simpson, despite falling badly and damaged his ribs, carried on to finish 21st, helping the team to 3rd spot.

In the U 20 Ladies Emma Lines grabbed the bronze medal and Holly O’Meara was 5th.

Finally in the Senior Women’s race, Becky Sanders, who only just moved into her first house with partner Kenny, and has done hardly any training as she has to travel 2 hours each way to work; had a brilliant run to finish 2nd .

Club Stalwart,Rachel Cook, running as a senior although she’s a vet. Was second scorer in 16th.

Closing the scoring Sally Latham sneaked past her sister Kate in the last  few  yards

to finish 25th. rotten trick. This gave us silver team medals.

Kate Simpson was 26th in the same time as Sally. Claire Beaumont  and

Michelle Tanner were 28th and 29th. Just back from a long lay off Hannah Hore was 37th.

In her first race for the Club, and probably her first ever XC race, Nicola Harrison finished 39th.  The conditions were enough to put anyone off for life. No wonder Louey the lip skived off just to move into a new house!

No senior men ran, just three coffin dodgers, Gerry Timmons, Gordon Orme and Tony Frain.

Eddie Cockayne.

Senior women’s team manager.
